====PREVIEW, from earlier====

Today's stage resembles a serrated knife that is rusty and dangerous. Sharp inclines and declines will make this relatively short stage, 161.5km, a challenge with extreme gradients towards the end of the final two climbs of the day. But this challenge presents a great prizemoney opportunity. Yesterday, Tony Martin hoovered up €13,000 of prizemoney - could this be bettered today? With only 33 riders within 15 minutes of Nibali, the other 150 riders will be given some latitude in the break. But will any of these 150 will have the endurance to outlast the GC royalty over the full 161.5km on this tricky stage?

As for prizemoney, Marcel Kittel retains a slim lead over Peter Sagan. But with the prizemoney leaderboard full of opportunists and sprinters, barring a Nibali stage win it is likely Kittel will retain his €uro Jersey for another day.
